Guided Walking Holidays For Groups

Yes, let us take the strain. Secret Hills Walking Holidays specialises in arranging guided group walking holidays in the UK and Europe - working with you to give you the best holiday at the most effective cost. Our philosophy is simple — we are in business to arrange walking holidays. We are expert in arranging hotels, meals, transport — and especially walk leading in the areas we promote.  The additional cost to you of our providing that service is minimal, when you work it out across the group.

Discuss with us what you want, where you want to walk, and we will propose a package to you - using the buying power we have - to give you a cost effective but superb holiday. A small deposit secures your place - final payment in UK is 4 weeks from the holiday start date, and in Europe 8 weeks from the holiday start date. Organisers discounts according to numbers and length of holiday are sometimes available (depending on numbers). In addition to walking, Secret Hills have a range of evening activities that can be purchased, such as quizzes, musical evenings, talks by local history experts, etc.

Secret Hills Walking Holidays have listed a number of walking groups we have arranged holidays in the past.  They will happily testify to how we have provided a complete service to them.  Just ask for their contacts.

I have had good feed back. I am looking at next year…Kind regards Sandie

Stoke Lodge Ramblers - Purbeck Hills Swanage, September 2021.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Alan, thank you for organising and leading our walking break. Secret Hills provides a sense of security to all our walkers who are highly appreciative of your personal style and commitment. David

All Saints Ramblers - Saundersfoot & Tenby, September 2021.

Dear Alan, Simon and Nina looked after us really well and we all had a great long awaited holiday. The hotel staff were very friendly although very busy.

The only problem that I am aware of was a lack of water pressure on the 3rd floor. My shower produced a dribble and was unusable, fortunately there was a bath.

All in all, a lovely break. Best regards Pat

Kettering Ramblers - Cromer, September 2020.
Hi Alan, Pam Mike and Mark. Just a line to thank you all for your part in making our club weekend a success.  It was never going to be easy but with support from you all in different ways we pulled it off! The hotel did a magnificent job. The feedback from the members has been positive. For some it was their first time away this year. The walks were great and even the weather was not as bad as predicted and certainly seemed better than the weekend weather was in Kettering. I now hope no one shows Covid symptoms in the next two weeks. I can then completely relax! Thanks again. Good luck with the rest of the year's activities. Kind regards to you all, Sue.

Kettering Ramblers - Derbyshire Dales, October 2019.
Hi Keith, Just a huge thank you to you, Catherine, Paul and Chris for all your organisation, planning, walk leading and patience over the last three days.  You were a great team and I felt relaxed and confident working with you all. You were all so knowledgeable about the area and easily adapted to the changing needs of the group.
I hope I have the opportunity to work with you in the future.  Please forward this email to the others. My best wishes to you all. Sue.

Meadhurst Ramblers - Eastbourne, September 2019.
Hi Alan, Just wanted to say how much we all enjoyed the holiday on the South Downs. Really great walks.  Also to say what an exceptional and excellent leader you have in Lou Stone.  Friendly, professional, knowledgeable, helpful and very hot on health & safety.  We couldn’t have wished for anyone better.  Also Kelly was delightful and very ably assisted Lou.
Hope all is well with you.
Regards, John.

I sat many an hour in the Bay Window, loving the view down to the sea. Some of the sunrises were quite spectacular. Having that room and view, truly put the cherry on the cake - rounding an excellent holidau up perfectly. Thank youMargaret Stanford

To Alan and Maggie,
Thankyou so much for another brilliant Secret Hills holiday for our group. The Virginia Court Hotel was an excellent choice for location, lovely rooms and wonderful food. The walkers have enjoyed the Norfolk Coast Path with Maggie's friendly and very caring leadership and strollers have appreciated Alans effort involved in tailoring the visits to our varied abilities, while showing us the highlights of the area.
Admin and planning was also handled very efficiently by Pam, and we will continue to recommend Secret Hills Walking Holidays.
Thankyou again. Yvonne. Epping Forrest HF Group.

"Hi Alan A big thank you from all of us at Kettering and District Rambling Club for an excellant weekend. The hotel was very comfortable with lovely food. As usual Ian was great as the weekend leader. Nothing seems to phase him and he patiently re- explains everything to those who didn't listen! All the rest of your leaders were kind and very knowledgeable. It was also good to have you with us for a day. The one comment several people made was could tea and coffee after dinner be included in the price. Obviously next year's price is already fixed so maybe a thought for the year after. Thanks again and hope the rest of the year goes well for you. Kind regards Sue "

- Sue Hartley Kettering Ramblers - October 2018

Dear Alan
Just a formal note to thank you for a great holiday! Club members expressed, to me , their appreciation in having two walk options, good and knowledgeable leaders, back-markers and the provision of transport. We were very impressed with the friendliness of all your team of leaders and with the high level of your organistaion.
Please pass on our good wishes to the team.
am sure we will be contacting you again, in the not too distant to arrange another holiday.
Best regards
Yours sincerley

"Stoke Lodge Ramblers Derbyshire Dales September 2018 Dear Alan I hope your trip this week went as well as ours. The setting of the hotel is outstanding, food good and leadership by your team excellent My main links were with Christine and Keith who had a great mix of local knowledge, humour and sensitivity to individuals needs. Our speaker on Friday was great. There were some moans about rooms at the rear and failed plumbing but the hotel staff were unfailingly cheerful and supportive I look forward to seeing the Shrewsbury prospectus in November David "

- David Mc Gregor Stoke Lodge Ramblers - October 2018

Dear Alan

I just wanted to write and formally thank you and your team for a wonderful weekend with the Gloucestershire WI at the Metropole Hotel.

This was my first experience of the WI walking weekend.  I really enjoyed the time away, the walks were great and the long walk on the Saturday was quite challenging in places!  Everything was well organised and flowed well.  The hotel was very comfortable, the food excellent and the customer service very good indeed.  Having a spa on site to soak our aching muscles was an added bonus!

Thank you again for an excellent time and I hope to be able to come along again next year.

With very best wishes

John Pennington South Dorset Ramblers Group- April 2017

Hi Alan

I would like to let you know that our group holiday to Majorca went very well and everybody was very happy about all aspects of it. The Hotel Marina was very nice, the food excellent and service good. We all liked the beautiful location in Port Soller and the surrounding countryside. A special mention for the Secret Hills team who we found to be very friendly, helpful and flexible in organising the holiday and walks, which we all enjoyed. On one occasion where one of our group was taken ill just after the start of a walk, Tom went back with her to the road an organised transport to take her back to the hotel. I have completed the New Experience feedback form and returned it to them.

We would certainly consider using Secret Hills again for a group holiday in the future.

Best Regards

John Pennington

Phillip and Jill Robinson South Dorset Ramblers Group- April 2017

To the Team at Secret Hills Walking,

My wife, Jill, and I have just returned for a week's walking in Majorca with Secret Hills, lead by Jill, Tom, Ian and Tristan. We were a part of a group of 38 people from the South Dorset Ramblers.

I feel that I must write to thank Secret Hills Walking, and particularly Jill, Tom, Ian and Tristan for a fantastic week of walking. The hotel was superb and all the walks were excellent. We opted for the harder walks each day, which did not disappoint, and Jill and Team did a wonderful job in guiding and supervising what were often quite big groups of people. Thanks also to Jill and the team for re-arranging a walk to a later day, after it had to be abandoned on its scheduled day because of rain. (Our only wet day!). The walk was well worth the wait.

Thanks again. Hopefully we might be able to walk with you again in the future.

Kind regards

Phillip and Jill

"We have had a great weekend in Llangollen.  A huge thank you goes to Ian and all the other guides for ensuring all went well.  They were so adaptable and tried hard to be sure they were meeting all our needs."

The weekend was a unanimous success

Debi Burridge - Settle U3A  Crickhowell  October 2016

" We all felt that the holiday went very well. The 'slower' walkers (myself included) were very pleased with all they achieved with the help and encouragement of Ian in particular. All of us enjoyed the choice of routes and variety of walks. It was great to switch off and be taken for a walk by people who knew the area well and could adapt routes if necessary. The hotel was well placed and I think everyone was comfortable with their rooms. The meals were good too. And even the weather was kind! All in all a successful trip, thank you again "

David Bailey East Berkshire Ramblers Sidmouth September 2016

I’ve had a number of reports back from members of the Group since their return from Sidmouth and the impression I’m getting is that, once again, Secret Hills came up trumps and provided us with another thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Well done, and thank you Alan. Thanks also to the leaders who I understand did really well – especially on Tuesday, the day of the storms!

Sue Flanagan on behalf of Hambleton Ramblers - July 2016

David Bailey - Group Walking Week organiser, East Berkshire Ramblers

Alan, Chris, Julie,

I have waited nearly a week since our Group returned from our Wye Valley holiday just to see how many more acknowledgements I get from members who were on it, saying what a great holiday they thought it was! I can honestly say that everyone was very happy with what you came up with for us and they are all now anxiously waiting to hear what we decide to do next year with Secret Hills.

Personally, I was so impressed with the help and encouragement I had had in the planning of the holiday during the ten months leading up to it, that I was in no doubt at all that everything would be fine when 14th September arrived. As indeed it was! Some of our members of course, having had years (and years!) of experience with HF and Ramblers Holidays - and many of whom had never even heard of Secret Hills -  were perhaps understandably a little apprehensive of something new. But their worries proved to be totally misplaced. Well done to all of you, and especially to your local leaders and other helpers who were excellent.

Alma Richardson - East Berkshire Ramblers, September 2014

As one of the members of East Berkshire Ramblers group on the holiday last week. I wanted to write to say what a great set of walks you arranged for us. The group of leaders were excellent. I always joined the medium walks and was impressed with all those who led the walks. The hotel was very good too.

Liz Daykin - Kempley Walkers - Derbyshire Dales, September 2014

Epping Forest HF walking group holiday - Malverns, April 2014

To Mike, Alan, Chris, David,Jim, Julie and Secret Hills staff. With thanks for another brilliant Secret Hills Holiday. We all enjoyed Malvern and the location. Accommodation at the Abbey Hotel and the walking has been superb.

Adam Pearce - Solihull Ramblers weekend Llandrindod Wells, April 2014

Alan, Julie and Paul,

That was a really great weekend, and proof that good weather is not necessary to enjoy walking.

This photo is just at the end in the Lakeside Cafe; more to come, but not tonight. I have so many things either drying or soaking it will be a while. Another one from the start on Friday.

Shropshire Hills, January 2014

Hello Alan,

All the arrangements ran smoothly, and everyone appreciated the local knowledge and consideration shown by the leaders.Everyone liked the hotel, the quiz was great fun, and the lunch on Monday at the Green Dragon was excellent.

The walk leaders were really good and were praised by one and all - can you pass our appreciation and thanks to all of them. It has been suggested we use Secret Hills again (after me trying to get it passed by the committee for years.) Many members took your brochure so hopefully you will get a lot of follow up business.

Sue Spires - Pang Valley Ramblers

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Thank you for making our weekend so successful. Everyone was delighted with all the walks and the adaptability of the different grades of senior citizens with which you and your excellent leaders has to cope with in our club! There were so many comments about the re- arrangement of the Sunday walks and several said that they very much enjoyed the Acton Scott Victorian Working Farm and would not have visited it if it had not rained.. Thank you for rushing round to the fam and making us so welcome with comfortable chairs on which to sit for lunch.

The entertainment in the evening was great and Chris's lunches went down very well - thank you Chris.

The hotel itself was excellent.

Davina MaCrae Stoke Lodge Ramblers

Dear Alan and Team,

We are writing to thank you most sincerely for our lovely group holiday last week.

We had been looking forward to this for some time and our expectations were surely exceeded.

The walks were superb, just right for our differing capabilities. Those who didnt do quite so much walking these days were particularly grateful for the level of care and attention you gave them. And the fun"never ending tale" about 'hazel of Undern Hall" , us long walkers thoroughly enjoyed. This along with Trevor getting Graham and Pete to do "a turn" on your cairn, all went down a treat. Not to mention the tallk you provided during our stay and the grand musical event on our final evening.

All made for a jolly time for us all(when the weather could have been just that little bit drier)

Of course we must not forget our delicious sandwiches provided by Chris' s A corn Whole food Cafe. Just what we needed for our picnics.

It goes without hesitation that we thoroughly recommend your company to others, and we have started already reading your brochure for the future!

Jenny Cooper - Gloucestershire Womens Institute

A  brilliant weekend - had lots of very favourable comments.  A really beautiful part of the country.  Guides were all excellent and although we don't normally we had a little collection for them so if I send a cheque to you, please would you be kind enough to distribute it?  They really were very caring and looked after us so well.

Thank you very much for all the arrangements

Pat Kidds - Exeter Ramblers

Thank you for the fabulous weekend that you gave us in Church Stretton. On behalf of all of us, will you please thank Paul and Lesley and Trevor and Barbara for making our walks so enjoyable. From a purely personal point of view, they managed to pace the walks perfectly for me, pausing to admire the scenery or point out local points of interest, just when I thought that I was breathing my last!

We would love to join you again and we have looked at your brochures. What about Crickhowell and the Black Mountains?

Beverley Moynihan - St Leonards Ramblers

"Perfect weather—and that was not easy to arrange in 2008—and lovely walking, combined with excellent hotel accommodation made Severn Vale Probus members very happy. The weather was a bonus—but thank you for a great five days. Once again your organisation was superb. Paul, Lesley, Ian, and yourself could not have been better walking hosts - so says Graham Gamblin, Walking organiser for the group. Shropshire was a delight - those hills get a little harder as we are one year older, but the routes you used were excellent.

Rossendale Ramblers members Gretchen Pyves and Ian Tattersall  went on Secret Hills walking’s trip to Madeira in May 2007, and were so impressed by this beautiful walking island that they organised a trip for 12 of their club in November. Alan Garner—Secret Hills Walking principal - is delighted that they have opted for a group holiday.

"We can arrange a specifically tailored walking holiday, with our Madeiran leader Bruno Fontes taking us on footpaths that are more off the beaten track. This combines the best of those volcanic mountains, and our favourite levada walking." Gretchen and Ian also know the restaurants we eat in, so they have chosen their favourites for the group.

Pauline Bagnall, from Coventry, organised a walking break for a number of friends, staying at The Mynd House Hotel, Church Stretton  during midweek in October. "We want to walk about 6 miles each day, and have a jolly good chinwag along the way. Then a good evening meal, followed by an early night, maybe a glass of wine, or two, says Pauline, who has arranged walking breaks for many years."

Irene Graham, who organises group holidays for Henri's walking group in North Wales was delighted with the holiday Secret Hills Walking provided in The Derbyshire Dales "We had been to Shropshire and Madeira with Secret Hills before, but this one topped those holidays - and we thought they were brilliant"

South Dorset Ramblers had their annual UK holiday in Shropshire this year. Twenty-four  walkers stayed at the Longmynd Hotel, for seven nights, and walked around Shropshire on Secret Hills Walkings' Shropshire Wanderer route. Elma Wyatt wrote glowingly about the week. "Thank you for a lovely holiday with South Dorset Ramblers. We had for a long time an ambition to explore the Shropshire hills and they certainly lived up to my expectations. I could not fault the programme or the accommodation (The Longmynd Hotel) and your leadership was first class. I shall recommend  Secret Hills Walking to my friends." The walking took in many of the beauty spots of South Shropshire, the Stretton Hills, The Long Mynd, Stiperstones, Offa’s Dyke, Bishops Castle, Clun and Ludlow.

Ricky Mak, from London wanted to get all his family together on an activity break so he chose Secret Hills Walking to organise it. "We had family members from 15 to 65 so organising something that fitted all requirements was not easy - but Secret Hills did just that and everyone was so happy to be together and in the wonderful Shropshire air."

Bath Ramblers have had three group holidays with Secret Hills and organiser Eileen Davey was fullsome in her praise for how the company has organised each holiday - "Everything went smoothly, great leading, and the choice of hotel was indeed a bonus - now to next year."

Marple Ramblers, organised their holiday in Madeira with Secret Hills guiding support. Organiser Mike Bryant: "Thanks for a great holiday - Bruno's guiding - supported by Rui and Ruben was excellent, and the general organisation of the walks and transport went well."
