Gran Canaria
The Country - a continent in miniature
Gran Canaria lives - a continent in miniature, with a dramatic variation of terrain, ranging from the green and leafy north to the mountainous interior and desert south. In the centre, the magnificent volcanic mountains look like the Tibetan highlands.
Gran Canaria is a beautiful natural environment, nearly half of which is protected, but only by walking can you discover the true delights of the islands and its people. Gran Canaria enjoys all year round warmth and sunshine with very little seasonal variation. Summers are hot and dry while winters are just slightly cooler with a few showers which makes for wonderful walking.
Much of our walking is in the Cumbre, the central mountain range with dramatic landscapes and remote cave villages, as well as in the fertile north, where we venture into deep valleys with lush vegetation. We can discover pine forests, alpine meadows, sub-tropical valleys, mountain peaks and gorges around the Cruz de Tejeda . In spring the flowers are a delight and much of the flora here is only found on the island due to the unique climate.
Superb Hotel Location
The high central mountains create great regional variation in climate. The northeast regions are generally cooler and wetter than the south and the west. Through experience of this special climate we have located our holidays to offer the best of walking, least time travelling and most opportunity for sunshine and dryness. Our 4* hotel is located in a prime location. The majority of the roads on Gran Canaria are bendy with long ascents and descents which is why we stay as close to the mountains as possible to save long, arduous journeys from the coast each day.
