A superb destination for excellent walking.
Montenegro (or more correctly Crna gore, ‘black mountain’) lies on the southern Adriatic coast, sandwiched between Croatia, Bosnia - Hercegovina, Serbia and Albania and within its borders are some of the wildest, most spectacular, and least visited trails and mountains in Europe.
Montenegro has it all on offer, from beautiful turquoise coastline, fjords, rivers, canyons and lakes to majestic hills and mountains and idyllic unspoilt old and new towns and villages as well as a vast range of wildflowers and birds.
We stay for our holiday is on the side of The Bay of Kotor in Kotor town, a deeply indented, fjord like turquoise inlet surrounded by mountains that reach the sky. Stunning sunsets. Because of its beauty and superb location and access to fantastic, varied walking our hotel for this new holiday is in Kotor, on the Bay.
Accommodation and meals
We stay in the old town of Kotor, on its sheltered inlet bay.
Fantastic historical town in itself.
The Hotel Marija- a traditional town design hotel - offers en suite rooms, WIFI, and breakfast and dinner.
You can explore the town from the door.
Dinner is three course- a varied menu with vegetarians catered for.
Sole Occupancy Supplement
The sole ccupancy supplement is £25 per night.- this is for a twin room/or double room for sole occupancy
Getting to Montenegro/Flights
Due to its hotel location and plentiful flight options we fly to Dubrovnik in Croatia then travel by private taxi overland , crossing the border into Montenegro and then contour the beautiful Kotor Bay to our Hotel location. Private road transfer is approximately 90mins and offers the most amazing first views of Montenegro the first wow factor on this holiday.
Flights are from most Uk regional airports- just ask us to quote form your nearest airport when you ask for a quotation.
Your walking programme
We use Montenego guides to lead this holiday, supported by a UK tour guide who will make sure all walks transport and your needs are met.
Walking is moderate - with a few steep sections- on limestone terrain.
Because we are near the coast, the variety of walking is superb. We take transport on three days to start and finish our walks, with two days walking directly from the hotel.
Montenegro is mountainous - so when we take transport to a higher altitude- the views are spectacular, with the clear blue sea always in the distance. Coastal walks hug the Kotor Bay and soon as we climb, the full extent of the magnificent coast line is revealed.
We walk on five days with one day to relax in the town and its attractions - normally the middle day.
Weather should be warm, yes it may rain, so be prepared - it can be heavy.
Great reasons to join us
Great reasons to join us
There are other walking holiday companies that cover Montenegro but we believe we offer the best value for many reasons….
We are a small friendly company
We have a loyal customer base who return again and again (so we must be doing something right) – read our testimonials page on the website
We offer a lot of flexibility – you can stay extra nights which we are happy to organise for you. We are also very flexible on the walks we provide, adapting to suit walkers and weather conditions
Our walk leading is second to none. Unlike some other large Walking Companies, we use LOCAL leaders who live in the area and who love their surroundings. They have expert knowledge of everything you need to know to make an area come alive.
You are safe in our hands – our guides are experts, fully qualified in first aid. Also, because of their local knowledge of the hills, they can respond to any situation that might for example demand cutting short a route. They don’t need to consult maps – they know the hills intimately.
Our leaders are all easy-going, genuinely sociable people who want to ensure that you have the best time you can with the rest of the group. They make the weekend fun by engaging with all members of a group, and ensuring that everyone feels part of the group experience.
We give great value for money. Because we recognise that lots of walkers holiday on their own, we have negotiated no single supplement deals with all our hotels to ensure the best possible deal.
We always use good hotels. Our hotel in Kotor is set in lovely surroundings with fabulous views and the standard is really good. It is a walkers hotel so it caters for all your needs.
We have smaller groups than some of the larger walking companies, because we believe the social experience is much better in a smaller group. People can talk to everyone, especially at dinner where you can all sit on one table in a small group. Our numbers vary from holiday to holiday but an average group size would be 8-12.

Montenegro - the country
Montenegro emerged as a sovereign state after just over 55% of the population opted for independence in a May 2006 referendum.
The vote heralded the end of the former Union of Serbia and Montenegro - itself created only three years earlier out of the remnant of the former Yugoslavia.
The EU-brokered deal forming it was intended to stabilise the region by settling Montenegrin demands for independence from Serbia and preventing further changes to Balkan borders.
The same deal also contained the seeds of the union's dissolution. It stipulated that after three years the two republics could hold referendums on whether to keep or scrap it. Montenegro opted for the latter.
Montenegro, which means "Black Mountain", borders Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Serbia's breakaway province of Kosovo and Albania. About half of it is covered in thick forest.
The tiny republic encompasses an Adriatic coastline, lowlands and high mountain ranges. The Tara River canyon is the deepest and longest in Europe.
