Mallorca's West Coast and Mountains

Warning: This holiday has passed. Please return to the holidays section to view all current and future holidays.

The contrast between lively holiday resorts and traditional Mallorcan mountain villages, between lovely crystal clear bays and the characteristic foothills of the Tramuntana mountains make the Southwest region so diverse and full of widespread appeal.

A few kilometres inland, small mountain villages offer a quiet alternative to the bustling coastal region with lovely places such as S’Arraco, Galilea, Capdella, Esporles, Puigpynyent and Calvià.

Majorca serves up the best of the best when it comes to tours for walkers and this south west corner of the sunny island will not disappoint.

History and heritage of this area will enhance your experience - such as the former Trappist monastery at La Trapa and of course the beautiful small island paradise of Dragonera, lying just of the coast and inviting you to visit.

Running through this region is the Internationally acclaimed national route - the GR221 - and we use this trail on some of our walking tours.

Accommodation and meals

In the South West of Majorca we use the Hotel Cupido - . All the facilities you need, comfortable rooms, good food. Swimming pool, leisure facilities. The hotel is just a stroll away from the beach.

Breakfast is taken in the hotel’s dining room or on the outside terrace.  Plenty of choice, buffet style.  Dinner - is buffet style with superb choices that changes each day.  The starters are filling, and main courses come with vegetables grown on the island.  We generally eat inside during the time we are on the island, but if it’s a warm evening then outside eating is highly recommended. We stay half board, and dinner is always a feature of our holidays - time to socialize, with good food and wine to swap stories about the day’s walking.

The hotel has a terrace on the top floor with jacuzzi's

Great reasons to join us

- meet new friends in a relaxed walking and social  atmosphere

- beautiful countryside to walk through and enjoy

- super value for money

- professional, friendly walk leaders who are passionate and knowledgeable about this area

- flights from many UK airports and its only 2.25 hours away

Flights and transfers

There are flights from most major airports to Palma and you will be transferred to Paguera from the airport.**  We will quote you from the nearest airport to you, but dependent on flight days and times, we may advise different airports at the time of reservation -  but the choice is yours.  There may be flight supplements dependent on the airport you fly from, and on how late you book with us.  We will always quote you to your exact specification and give you options on flights.

Note- we always try to advise that you fly from your local airport- this is one of the unique selling points for our holidays.

There may be a small flight supplements from your local airport- as we price our holidays well in advance and based upon typical London departures.

The advantages in cost and convenience however far outweigh any additional local airport supplement- and to support the environment - reducing the overall carbon footprint is good policy.

**Transfers – as you have the choice of airports and flight times- where this is practical – we arrange transfers that accumulate clients together for onward transfer to hotels/and return to the airport.

This can mean small delays whilst we accumulate clients together for group transfers- unavoidable- and this policy impacts favourably on the cost of your holiday.

Should you want an individual transfer- to avoid any waiting time - then there will be an additional charge for this

Your walking programme

A typical walking day

We leave at 9.15am, travel by minibus or local taxi to walk start - generally each walk lasts for five and half hours - maybe with a coffee or orange jiuce stop in the country, lunch is normally packed from the local supermarket - lovely baguettes. Walking is moderate with some steeper sections, but we won't rush these. The Majorcan country side is superb - high mountains all around but lovely river valleys, a coast line that enchantes  and splendid villages to pass through, and it is always a pleasure to look at the lovely wild flowers and village floral displays.

Walking is varied and some of the routes are shown here.

We transport you to the walk start each day and also to the various historical sites we visit.  The travel through these magnificent mountains is a big feature of our holiday.

- La Trapa circular- Monastic wanderings around Sant Elm

- Old Postmans Route from Esporles to Banyalbufar

- Mountain Peaks and Tourquoise Bays - S'Arraco to Prt Andratx

- Serra de Na Burgesa and Calvia Valley- overlooking Palma

- the wild Mount Galatzo and surrounding countryside

-Puigpunyent - a walk in the remote countryside of this traditional village

- On the island of Dragonera - including boat trip

The Climate
Is typically Mediterranean, mild winters and hot summers - too hot for walking.  We organize our holidays in March/April- lovely spring flowers and a green paradise, and October, when it is still lovely and warm, ideal for walking.

Although our leaders are well trained  and experienced in dealing  with different capabilities of our walking clients, if they have any concerns about  any clients ability or suitability to undertake safely any walking activity we plan or they feel that participation of an individual may affect the groups safety and cohesion, then they have full permission to exclude that client from an activity.

They will try at all times to provide an alternative suggested activity, though this may involve the client in additional local cost.

We rarely have to enforce this above recommendation, but it is a sensible and necessary protection for the individual client, the group and the leaders.

Our partners New Experience holidays will ask for this information as a condition of reserving a place.

If you are a UK citizen and travelling in Europe you should obtain the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from your Post Office. This gives you medical care at a reduced cost, and some cases for free, in many European countries, but should not be considered a substitute for adequate insurance

Majorca - the place

Majorca’s  provides  a great walking experience—on this holiday island renowned for it’s sun, sand and sangria, there is an area of peace and tranquillity, where the walking is superb. The coast line is also very rugged, and this affords us tremendous sea views as well as mountain scenery. The limestone allows deep gorges and waterfalls, yet there are pine forests as well.

Our walking is moderate - with some strenuous stretches, all done at a manageable pace. We stay  in Paguera,  a hotel with excellent  rooms and a short walk from the town centre. We eat in the hotels dining room—a wide choice of international food for your delight.

.Majorca's walking is through an undiscovered landscape, a rural idlyll, a land of orange and lemon groves, where twisted and knarled olive trees are on every corner. Majorca offers a mountain landscape that sweeps down to the sea, offering us lovely coastal walking as well as the high tops. Its pretty, unspoilt villages compliment the walking we do, and its deep valleys are magnificent to walk up and down. Here the foothills of the Tramuntana mountain range meet the sea - superb walking.

Palma - the iconic capital of the island with its magnificent cathedral and fine shopping experience, as well as a marina and cruise ship port, is just 30 minutes away- a super destination for your day off walking.

Add extra days to your stay/Combine holidays

You can add extra days and nights to your holiday with us. OR it is possible to combine this holiday with the holiday based in Port Soller- starting on October 9.

We will quote you as a combination holiday- saving  a small cost in airseat price. There will be a charge to trabsfer you from one holiday to another at the end of the the holiday based in Paguera

There is much to explore in Majorca - so ask us to quote you for the extra nights you need.

Of course you can add extra nights by organising these your self

The beautiful city of Palma is close by, a joy to explore with its magnificent cathedral. The island too with its gardens, villages and coastal grandeur is well worth exploring.
