Discovering Slovenia's magical land - a strolling and discovery tour.
This holiday is for those people who love the beauty of the countryside, want to explore the Slovenian culture and way of life, enjoy visiting the main attractions in this lovely area- and whilst enjoying that- take part in a little gentle strolling - because sometimes the only way to see a country is to get close on foot.
Each day we offer something different- and as this is an escorted tour with your own UK tour guide - then everything is arranged for you.
Enjoy the lovely family run Tripic hotel, excellent rooms, srevice second to none, and food that will get those foodie pallettes going.
Sometimes we have our Slovenian guides to show you round their magnificent country, and we transport you in our minbuses or taxi's to the activities everyday.
Join new friends that turn into old friends- it is a real social week where we walk together, eat together and discover together.
Accommodation and meals
Hotel Tripic is family owned, and a comfortable base for our walking holidays. All rooms are spacious, and are en suite. The hotel is situated in the village of Bohinj Bistrica, five kilometres from Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest lake. The village has a number of bars, supermarkets, a pharmacy and a fitness and swimming centre. It is the centre for rural life in the upper Bohinj valley. The rivers Bistrica and Sava meet here.
Tripic has a comprehensive breakfast and dinner menu - plenty of choice and well cooked. Internet facilities are available at the hotel. You can also hire cycles. The Tripic family will make you very welcome. The hotel is quiet, and is the start point for transport to our walks start.
Unfortunately, for sole use of a twin room, there is a supplement of £18 per night. There is the option of sharing a Duplex suite - two separate twin rooms, with a shared bathroom. Talk to us about this option.
We include the price of flights in our price quoted in our leaflets and on our website. Our flight price costings are based upon typical air seat prices from London Stansted. When you wish to book a holiday with us, we research all the available flights, Charter and “No Frills” airlines from the airport of your choice, we will give you an individual quotation. Dependent on the time of year, specific dates, and air seat prices relevant at the time of booking, then there may be flight supplements. Our partners in Secret Hills Walking Holidays in Europe, New Experience Holidays will provide the individual quotation. They provide us with ATOL bonding. .
London Stansted - a 1pm flight allowing you time to get there in a morning
Luton - Wizzair fly from Luton.
Gatwick- Easyjet fly from Gatwick
Flights into Venice
Sometimes we may advise that you travel to Venice Marco Polo airport - there are flights from Edinburgh/Newcastle/Birmingham/Bristol/ East Midlands - and you will be transferred to your hotel at Bohinj Bistrica - about 2.25 hours. There is an extra transfer supplement and we try to organise several of you together to split the transfer supplement cost. However the cost of this extra transfer supplement may well be very much cheaper than UK travel to either Stansted, Gatwick, Luton or Manchester and we will quote you both options.
Alternatively there are one stop flights to Pars/Frankfurt and Munich which connect with Slovenia, with a small dwell time at those airports.
Meeting you in Slovenia
We will meet you at Llubjana airport for onward transfer to Hotel Tripic

Slovenia the country
Slovenia shares borders with Hungary, Austria, Croatia and Italy. It is one of the newer members of the EU, having joined in 2004.
The spectacular mountains in the Julian Alps are predominantly limestone, and their jagged form produce stunning vistas wherever you look. The area is softened by beautiful, tranquil lakes in the valley bottoms and also amongst the rocky crags.
The country has a proud reputation for cleanliness, and self sufficiency - you will find many small allotments for vegetable and fruit growing in most gardens. The Slovenes are a welcoming people, friendly and outgoing. They want you to explore their superb countryside. Walking is a national hobby - why wouldn’t it be when there is so much grand scenery to explore. Their other national pastime is eating - and they have excellent Slovenian wine.
Walking is available from May to October in these hills, and temperatures can be hot in the valleys in July and August, though higher up cool breezes are a help. We walk in May,June and September - ideal temperatures. Ljubljana is the capital, and the airport is also near there, transfers to our hotel are about 60 minutes, but through wonderful scenery—a good way to whet you appetite for the days ahead. Lake Bled is 12 kilometres away.
The Slovenian people will welcome you to their magnificent country - rest assured.

Kirtsteen Macleod Slovenia June 2018
The hotel was excellent from a number of perspectives:
The location of the hotel was ideal - close to amenities and easy to walk around the village early morning/in the evening
The room was spacious and very comfortable
All of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful
The food (breakfast and evening meal) was very enjoyable and varied.
All arrangements worked very well. As well as the 'in resort' arrangements being very smooth, the travel to the hotel worked well - particularly the collection at the airport.
My travel arrangements involved an alternative from the suggested Stansted route and the arrangements around this were ideal.
All round a great trip - thanks
Richard Wightman Slovenia June 2018
Very professional and responsive to needs of the walkers and weather & in particular our safety & enjoyment
The hotel was excellent. Nice to have a small family run business who would do anything to help. The drying room with locked cages for each room was a bonus

Brenda Limer - Slovenia September 2017
Hotel was good. Room very spacious, clean with good storage i.e Hanging space and shelves. Bathroom clean with very powerful shower. Staff were always friendly and extremely pleasant and helpful. Being a vegetarian, I found plenty that I liked. The salad bar was good and and pizzas were delicious
I wasn't sure how difficult the walking would be and although I went with the idea of doing the strolling option, I really enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction of completing the walking
The whole holiday was extremely well organised from flight bookings and information to the everyday planning of the walks. Safety was a priority - because of the rain, an alternative walk was planned to replace the scheduled one.
I enjoyed the new experiences and meeting a great group of people and knowledgeable guides in Alan, Katya and Luca.

The walks were chosen carefully by Alan and Katja depending on weather conditions. Some were more challenging but all were achievable. The high walks in good weather were spectacular. Having Katja as our guide was great. She was in tune with the group's needs and limitations and seemed to appreciate the group's humour. I had complete confidence in the guides.

Our second Secret Hills 'expedition' to Slovenia and still it's our favourite destination. Absolutely perfect - the best of walking, excellent guides, superb scenery and the loveliest of family-run hotels where simply nothing is ever too much trouble. What more could we want? We thought perhaps this might be our last visit but no - we HAVE to return yet again. We love it.
Sue Flannagan on behalf of Hambleton Ramblers - June 2016
This was my second trip to Slovenia with Secret Hills and as last time there was nothing I would change. A wonderful country with an excellent company. Hotel, guides and walks could not to be faulted.
Well done Chris and Alan keep up the good work and we will see you again.

I must confess that I was somewhat apprehensive about going on a singles weekend. Would it be like a WI. meeting or a Club 18-30's. Thankfully, it was neither and within minutes of meeting you, all concerns just vanished.
Celia Davies Slovenia June 2014
Thank you both for a happy week of strolling and exploring.. The care that you take in organising everything was much appreciated.. One could relax and enjoy the experience safely assured that one was being looked after. It is no easy task to create such a pleasant atmosphere amongst a group.

Hi Alan & Chris,
The knee is getting better each day - I really would like to express my grateful thanks to you & Chris for all your help in arranging for me to go to A&E with Chris as my minder, who stayed with me throughout and all the help i received on my return to the hotel. this is what makes Secret Hills walking holidays the absolute best, nothing is too much trouble, the personal touch is always evident. Although my plans to scale high peaks were dashed, plan B was put into operation by Alan, and i had a most enjoyable weeks holiday, doing slightly different things with the strollers and explorers. Our group was full of interesting people and many friendships were formed. I shall be back in lovely Slovenia next year to tackle the peaks! and if like me you have not traveled abroad on your own before, go with Secret Hills - you will not regret it!!

Dear Chris and Alan
Just a few lines to reiterate how very much we both enjoyed the recent trip to Slovenia. We had the most fantastic week and loved every single moment - yes, even the afternoon marooned in the thunderstorm in Lublijana! It was brilliant from start to finish. The beautiful country itself and 'our' exquisite area, the lovely hotel, food and attention, the super walking with our two wonderful guides, your excellent planning and constant kindness, the amazing weather and, of course, the companionship of such a super group of fellow walkers. Each and every day we had such fun and shared such laughter. It was an absolute joy. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
Best regards and good luck for the future
Lin and John Chesshire, Dorset
P'S. Sorry we were such a rowdy bunch!!!
